We’ve seen matcha grown in popularity in the last few years. If you don’t know, matcha is a finely ground powder made from green tea. It is used in Japan for ceremonies, and has culinary and industrial applications as well. Possibly because it contains an antioxidant called catechin EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate), we’ve seen more and more companies employing matcha as an ingredient in a variety of different applications such in beverages, confections, and supplements. Large brands like Starbucks have even offered a matcha based product here in America.
Matcha has also grown in popularity as an ingredient in people’s own kitchens. Here’s one a great recipe from two sisters who are dietitians and run a popular site called Food Heaven Made Easy. Who doesn’t like Reese’s peanut butter cups? Here, they creatively use matcha in an amazing almond butter cup recipe!
