Description
Acai berries have been a superfood staple in their native region, and the past few years have seen their popularity grow among our fellow foodies around the globe. Acai is especially popular because they are incredibly healthy in addition to delicious.
These inch-round fruits grow on acai palm trees in Central and South American rainforests, including the Amazon. A dark purple skin and yellow flesh surround their large seeds, or pits. Now, because acai have pits, they aren’t technically berries— they’re drupes. Acai drupes don’t sound quite as delicious, so the term berries stuck.
For the puree, the pits have been removed and the berries soaked and blended into a soft form that can mix well with a variety of other foods and fruits.
