To the pedants of the world: we hear you. You cannot, in fact, milk a coconut. So, what exactly is coconut milk?
Coconut milk may not be a dairy product, but it’s almost as creamy as ‘real’ milk. Coconut milk comes from shredding the flesh of mature brown coconuts and then pureeing it with water. The milk is then strained to remove any pulp.
The result? A rich, pure-white liquid that lends a rich flavor and a myriad of health benefits to your diet and your dishes.
Do note that coconut milk should not be confused with coconut water, which is 94% water and comes from immature green coconuts.
