“Piquillo” translates from Spanish as “little beak.” These small, cone-like peppers are generally 2 ½ inches long and boast a rich red coloring. These peppers are mild, sweet, and just a little bit tart. Grilling infuses them with an additional smoky flavor and a keen crunch.
But Piquillos aren’t just grilled. First, they are roasted over embers, bringing out their distinct sweet and spicy flavor. Then they are peeled and grilled to take in extra flavor and texture. Once grilling is complete, they are marinated and de-seeded before being sealed for purchase.
These peppers do not have any heat to them, so even the softest of tongues can enjoy their flavor.
