Mukimame is a delectable preparation of soybeans, originating in East Asia. In short, mukimame is simply a “shelled” version of edamame. With the later, immature soybeans are prematurely picked while still green and in their pods. However, since you don’t eat the pods, you would need to strip the outer shells in order to get to the scrumptious beans inside. With Mukimame, however, the shells are already removed, making this dish a convenient and easier way to enjoy the meal.
The end result are perfectly cooked and seasoned soy beans that look similar to lima beans in appearance, but with a firmer chewier texture and a with a light nutty flavor.
