General Description
Pesto means “to pound” or “to crunch”. In ancient Rome, pesto was made of garlic, salt, cheese, herbs, olive oil and vinegar, with the addition of basil later. Modern pesto usually consists of basil, pine nuts, olive oil, and parmesan but can also include other ingredients.
Pesto not only tastes delicious, but it is a healthy way to add flavor to pasta, sandwiches, and snacks. Pesto is a great way to replace mayonnaise. Pesto is traditionally ground up in a pestle, but today, it is easy to use a blender or a food processor to mix up pesto.
