Pine Nut

Pine Nut

Pine nuts are the seeds of pine trees. They are typically found between the scales of pine cones. Pine nuts are ready to harvest about ten days before the green pine cone begins to open. Once they are harvested, the nuts must be removed from their shells. If not eating the pine nuts right away, they should be stored in the refrigerator in order to prevent them from going rancid.

Pine nuts are typically eaten raw or are roasted and have a sweet nutty flavor and crunchy texture. Pine nuts are delicious, healthy, and versatile and can be eaten as a snack, or put into pesto sauces and other recipes.
