Teriyaki sauce is a popular Japanese marinade. There are four main ingredients to teriyaki sauce: soy sauce, ginger, sake or mirin, and sugar. Other ingredients may be added, such as garlic or sesame. Teriyaki sauce is usually thin, but it can also be reduced to make a thicker sauce.
Teriyaki is generally a sweet sauce, although there can be spicy versions, as well. Most often used with chicken, the high demand for teriyaki has inspired the use of many different proteins, such as beef for teriyaki burgers.
