Quinoa, historically a plant exclusive to Peru, has become an international favorite food. 2013 was declared “The Year of Quinoa” by the United Nations; quinoa consumption has increased drastically in the past decade. Like rice, a bowl of quinoa is made of boiled, fluffy, individual granules (while they appear to be grains, quinoa is technically considered a seed).
